Key biodiversity areas: critical contributions to private sector decision-making
25 March 2025 | 11:00 - 12:30 | UK / BST
Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) are sites that contribute significantly to the global persistence of biodiversity in terrestrial, freshwater, and marine ecosystems. The integration of KBA data from IBAT into decision-making within the private sector can help inform biodiversity management plans and ultimately help position the private sector to conserve the most important areas for the global persistence of biodiversity.
This session will provide participants with a deeper technical understanding of KBAs and why they are important to businesses. It will also provide additional metrics which look at the condition and threats toKBAs and are being considered as potential new metrics for IBAT.
Informing site-level management plans for species and nature positive contributions with STAR
25 March 2025 | 14:00 - 15:30 | UK / BST
The Species Threat Abatement and Restoration (STAR) metric pinpoints where pressure reduction and restoration efforts can yield the greatest benefits. It enables science-based target setting for species and helps target actions to reduce species extinction risk. The application of STAR for businesses is being piloted by IUCN as part of the Nature Positive Initiative.
This session will show how STAR works, share initial lessons from the pilot, and invite participants to test how to use STAR with a case study to launch the discussion, ending off with a Q&A session.

Streamlining disclosures: how IBAT supports effective reporting against leading frameworks
25 March 2025 | 16:00 - 17:30 |UK / BST
As EU regulations evolve, biodiversity-related reporting has become increasingly critical. Ensuring interoperability between both voluntary and mandatory reporting standards and frameworks is essential for streamlining disclosures and meeting regulatory requirements.
In this session, industry experts will discuss key trends in the disclosure landscape, share insights from working with organizations, and explore how tools like IBAT can facilitate compliance with existing standards such as Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), The Taskforce onNature related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)
Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of the latest developments in biodiversity-related reporting and actionable[ML1] steps to integrate these frameworks within their organizations.
